As a podcaster, I often get asked about the best audio interfaces for podcasters, and whether or not someone needs one for their show. While it really depends on the person and their setup, I generally recommend audio interfaces for anyone looking to level up their sound quality and ditch their USB microphone. But, with so many audio interfaces on the market, it can be difficult to determine which one to buy. So, in this episode, I’m giving you the best audio interfaces for podcasters.

What Is An Audio Interface?

An audio interface is a device that enables users to connect XLR microphones to their computers. XLR microphones are a step up from USB microphones in terms of quality, because audio interfaces have better digital conversion than USB microphones, and audio interfaces have high-quality preamps. Thus, when using an audio interface, you get a clean, loud, crisp recording. This recording is almost always better than that of a USB microphone.

Of course, a good microphone is also imperative to get a good recording. In fact, audio interfaces open up a lot of options for microphone selection. You see, there are maybe four or so USB microphones that I recommend for podcasters. If you go the audio interface route, there are DOZENS of good podcast microphones. Confused about good podcast mics? Check out my article on the top 10 podcast microphones. Also, with an audio interface, you can multi-track record. This is important if you record with multiple people who are all in the same room.

So, is an audio interface right for you? An audio interface isn’t entirely necessary, but, if you take your podcaster game seriously and you’re looking to level up, it’s best to record with an audio interface.
